Go Go Cell phone Power

On Monday February 6th David Yang came in to talk to us about using Flash in cell phones. The flash is not the one you would buy in a store or the one we use in this course but something called Flash Light. David showed us that there are now two versions of Flash Light (1.1 and 2.0) 1.1 is the most commonly used in cell phones in North America. However Flash Lite 2.0. Is starting to come in due to new cell phone models available to people

When he first started he asked us all who had a computer, Everyone pritty much put up their hand (we are in a computer course and now with computer so low I would not be surprised if there was a computer for every fourth person in Canada). However he asked who had a cell phone next and the class put their hands up. He went on to say that the computer world has slowed down, but the cell phone market has sped up. With Flash Light 2.0 you make clear visually aids because everything that is drawn in flash uses vectors (and vectors are cool).

The only snag in this rapidly growing cell phone market is that most phones people own do not have flash installed, newer ones have flash preinstalled but the older versions have to download it from the internet, some do not even connect to he internet. This makes the cell phone market very quirky. Unlike computers that are obsolete in six months, cell phone are obsolete in three months. Now I do not know about you but I have a cell phone that is about a good eight to nine months old, I use it for talking (I mean that’s what they are designed to do) and if I want to play games I would rather play them on screen bigger then the thumb.

David talked about using cell phones to use them so that you can locate yourself on the map using the cell towers and makers. This is a very scary thing to me because I would not want my cell phone to be sending out periodic streams of data to a tower so that some nut could potentially track me down easier. Cell phones already have this technology though build in. Bell actually has a feature call 911 which essentially just allows police to instantly track where you are as soon as you call 911. This I think is a good idea because its not like the police are going to locate just for the hell of it.

I do not want this person knowning where I walk

All in all it was a interesting presentation and possibly we will all have cell phones that have flash interfaces the rival the best website. Possibly in the future the cell phones will return to the big bulky ones but have a larger screen and dose not weigh as much as dumbbell, but still smaller then a laptop.
